I would love to start a publishing company. Not in the traditional sense, but in a more modern sense. Someone who assists an artist in getting their message or work out to a wider audience and gets by compensated by the artist. Due to certain factors – mainly cost – the publishing industry became the opposite, where the artist had to convince the publisher that there was profit to be made. Or where the artist was mainly manufactured to fit the audience. It followed on from there that the publishers were the ones paying the artist.

In today’s digital world that is no longer necessary.

The switch from the publisher paying the artist to the artist paying the publisher for services rendered is well on its way (would love to find/explore some examples of this) and its only a matter of time before it’s the standard.

There is also the role of the interaction of the consumer and the publisher. I think that can coexist – there are always going to be people who have a need for filters. Someone or something that will help them sort through the noise and find what they are looking for. It just doesn’t need to be the only way people get their media anymore.

First Post

This is my first blog post on this new site.  Starting this up has been on my to-do list for quite a while now.  My current goal is to do those things which are great ideas, yet never seem materialize for whatever reason.  I don’t know if I can check this off until I have at least a couple of posts, but I’ll call it half credit for now.

I’m starting off here using wordpress.   I was planning to write my own to develop my ruby on rails skills, but since I didn’t get around to it in a week it is time to remove the excuses for not creating content.
